Sidney Seymour (b.1990) was born in London and studied at Wimbledon College of Arts. His practice primarily involves metalworking, with artworks forged in fire by harnessing the tools of welding and plasma cutting. Seymour’s practice is notably collaborative, and he has worked with collectives such as the Temporary Autonomous Art and the Mutoid Waste Company, of which he is a member. Seymour’s sculptures have been found trespassing on iconic London clubs such as FOLD London and international music and arts events such as Glastonbury Festival and Burning Man.
Seymour’s work is often inspired by the inextricable link between unconventional fringe art, music, and party culture, which has underpinned some of the most formative cultural movements in the UK. Seymour's work manipulates the products of our post-industrial society by reconstituting discarded material to create artworks ranging from sculpture to fashion.
He continues his visual language in his fashion label Born in Dust, founded in 2017. The label has been featured in HUNGER Magazine and commercial music videos by artists such as Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding. Born in Dust repurposes discarded fabrics and clothing to reanimate and fortify them with layering, rich handmade screenprinting, stitching and various chemical barrages. Born in Dust apparel is primarily custom-made, but a small selection is available for sale at the online store.
